The Warthog is the most common and probably the most useful vehicle in the game. It is heavily armed, highly maneuverable and is actually the fastest vehicle in the game although Halo’s rough terrain means than the ghost with its Anti-gravity levitators often has the advantage. Like all vehicles the Warthog has the ability to kill instantly by running people over. The Hog is the only vehicle is the only vehicle where the driver does not operate the weapons as well which means when going solo in a Hog all you’ve got to defend yourself with is the 4 wheels and chasse you’re riding on. When trying to run someone down, then don’t just go straight for them, instead try sliding sideways into them so there is more to hit them with. When driving the warthog remember to keep moving because as soon as you are stationary you just become a sitting duck with your gunner vulnerable to snipers, your passenger’s range of fire restricted and one fatal rocket could take you all out. So pick-ups and drop-offs should be done as quickly as possible. When confronted with a group of infantry then drive around them in circles and let your gunner cut them down. If you can, try to drive clockwise so you are less exposed to there fire. If you meet another vehicle then the best way to get rid of them is to flip them since unless you have a gunner you don’t have any firepower to directly kill them. If you meet another Hog then just keep smashing into them and hope they flip although there are a few good places to go for to knock it into the air. The easiest is to go head on into the side and T-bone them they normally bounce off the hood and roll in the air. If your driving straight towards your opponent, about to have a head to head collision then remember, one hog will drive over the front corner of another, so just before you collide swerve slightly to one side so they will hit the corner of your vehicle as oppose to the front. This should cause them to go up and over the top of you, hopefully making an awkward landing that causes them fall out. Tanks are also a problem because the cannon is like a bigger and nastier version of all drivers worst enemy, the SPNKr but there is something you can do when a scorpion crosses your path and that is get under it, this is done by driving into the gap between the two caterpillar tracks the tank should go straight over you, now once here you can either stay there, leaving it with its gun pointing skywards and restricting its fire or keep going to hopefully knock the 60ton beast on to its back and knocking the driver out. Be careful so as not hit the scorpion on ins corners or else you will find yourself being flipped out of your vehicle. Ghosts are dealt with in the same way as the others, get underneath them and watch them fly. If the ghost is parked then the hog will actually go over the ghost. The most important thing about driving Warthogs is making sure you stay in it and only get out when you intend to. To do this you only have to remember 3 things: 1. when you start to roll then turn towards the side on which the wheels are raised this should prevent you from rolling. 2. When doing jumps, then pull the movement stick back as if reversing to stop you from nose stalling. 3. When driving off high cliffs and taking bigger jumps then spin around horizontally in mid air to keep level. When entering the driver seat you must get in with the weapon armed that you intend to exit holding when you arrive at your destination. As far as gunners are concerned there is tot much to it, just keep firing and aim at the enemy or in their general direction. Burst fire will slightly improve the weapons accuracy at slightly longer distances. At close range an infantry man will only survive 2 seconds of continuous fire so you can mop up a small group in seconds but don’t let them get too close because the 50 cal. has have a very dead zone of about 1 meter and if they get within that there’s nothing you can do. If your driver is killed you become very open to fire from snipers, rocket, plasma grenades, frag grenades, pistols… pretty much anything that isn’t a shotgun or assault rifle so you should really get out as soon as possible. One quick way to get from the gun to the driver’s seat is by turning the gun around so your back faces the driver’s seat and continually press X and you should switch from one to the other and then you can make a speedy getaway. Passengers are pretty useless in terms of added fire power because they can only fire in a range of 180° and even if they do have a clean shot at the enemy it’s often too shaky to aim. The rocket launcher is probably the only half decent weapon for the shotgun seat because it turns the hog into a light tank. Don’t forget grenades can be thrown from the passenger seat which is also a good thing to do in a mach with lots of vehicles since it doesn’t matter where they go because you’ll be long gone before they explode. If you bump into any trouble on the ground the passenger should get out first and let the hog cover him. Really this seat is only good for transport and nothing else and even though the passenger is not as vulnerable as the gunner he is more vulnerable than the driver.
